This account book can be used to consider the time required to build the canal compared to projects today. Notice should be given to the ledger accounts that appear to be paid for deliverys. Most deliveries are nearly 4 wks apart. Reflecting the time required to load the gravel, deliver the load, and unload the gravel on site.

The canal water measurement books can be used to explore why the water level of the canal had to be maintained and factors influencing the water levels. This can be used in conjunction with pictures of the gates located on the East side of Grand Lake that were used to let water into the canals from the reservoir.

Interestingly the railroad is again in the picture as canal boats rot along the canal bank. The need for a fairly level route for the canal was also a necessity for the railroad. The railroads benefitted greatly from the early surveying efforts of the canal builders.
