Ernest Morgan published a ballot and a campaign leaflet for the Greene County Socialist Party around 1940. First is a write-in ballot for Socialist Party candidates, including Socialist Party leader Norman Thomas for president, pacifist clergyman Paul Jones of Mahoning County for governor, and Yellow Springs resident Elizabeth Morgan for Congressman-at-large. The ballot is one page and measures 3.5" x 5.5" (8.89 x 13.97 cm). The leaflet, titled "Why Depressions?," addresses economic problems in America and offers solutions based on socialist ideology. It is two pages long and measures 6" x 8.5" (15.24 x 21.59 cm).
Socialist candidates were once considered invalid under Ohio Election Law. The Socialist Party in Greene County, Ohio was particularly active in the 1920s and 1930s, and often focused on the issue of adding the party to the voting ballot.
